Today I went to an auction and came home with an Eddystone M1917 Enfield. The barrel has an R over a flaming bomb with the date 11-18. The bore looks good.
It’s bright with strong rifling, but it appears to be in need of a cleaning. The stock is in very good condition. It almost looks new, which makes me suspect it may possibly be an aftermarket replacement. It does have an “R” stamped into the wood at the muzzle end and an Eagle stamp over the number “339” just in front of the magazine well. Other than that I can find no other markings on the wood. The finish wear varies between parts. The magazine plate and trigger guard appear to be blued, while the barrel, receiver, and rear sight are a darker black.
